I think it's time I told the Internets something. It's something I've been afraid to talk about for awhile. I suppose I am a little self-conscious about it, or perhaps I'm afraid of how all the Internets peoples will start judging me. (Because you know, if you are afraid of people judging you, then the best thing to do is start putting stuff about yourself into a public forum.) But, I am ready to tell.

I have started excercising again.

A million and a half years ago I used to exercise some. I hopped on the Tae Boe bandwagon, and would come home from work every day to punch and kick my way around my living room. And I did feel better and (was told) it made me look good. Plus, I was working on the final push of writing my master's thesis, so the exercise routine did help me stay focused. Thank you, Billy Blanks! I owe my M.A. to you! (Okay, not really.)

But that was the last time I exercised with any regularity. I've had brief periods of time since then when I've tried to start up again, but it never lasted for long.

But lately I've noticed that my pants are getting tighter. About the same time, the management of my apartment complex announced the opening of a new fitness center, free to residents. (After a small fee for a key to the room, since they keep it locked to keep the exercise-craving riff raff out.) All the signs were there .... so I decided it was time.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been trying to go every other day to work out on the elliptical machines. Sometimes I'll try a treadmill or the bike or spend some time with the weight machines, but I'm fixated on the elliptical. I even have my favorite machine. So far, no one has been using it when I get there, but the first time that happens, it will probably send me into a tailspin. (How many calories does a tailspin burn?)

Why did I decide that today, of all days, is the right time to announce this to the internet? Because today, I moved up from 18 minutes on the elliptical to 25 minutes --- without falling over, puking, or breaking anything. PROGRESS, MY FRIENDS! How you like me now?
